INTRODUCTION
As we read on in our Text Verse:
1 Chronicles 17:16-24:
16 And David the king came and sat before the Lord, and said, Who am I, O Lord God, and what is mine house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?
17 And yet this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; for thou hast also spoken of thy servant's house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O Lord God.
18 What can David speak more to thee for the honour of thy servant? for thou knowest thy servant.
19 O Lord, for thy servant's sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all this greatness, in making known all these great things.
20 O Lord, there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
21 And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem to be his own people, to make thee a name of greatness and terribleness, by driving out nations from before thy people whom thou hast redeemed out of Egypt?
22 For thy people Israel didst thou make thine own people for ever; and thou, Lord, becamest their God.
23 Therefore now, Lord, let the thing that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant and concerning his house be established for ever, and do as thou hast said.
24 Let it even be established, that thy name may be magnified for ever, saying, The Lord of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel: and let the house of David thy servant be established before thee.
We see David’s acceptance of God’s promises. Also David recounts the offer of God, plus that which He has ordained for this people.
Thus King David continues to glorify, to magnify God, and to Worship Him. In this way, we can see not only total submission, and reliance on God, for our needs in life, but also the acceptance of God’s sovereignty in our lives.
Have you accepted these promises, and God’s sovereignty in your life?
So let’s recap on what god has offered to Mankind -
Continual presence and Guidance - we are His Temple and Tabernacle.
Training on how to be overcomes in life and seeing in His eyes, by His Holy Spirit.
Given an ordained place to live, and firmly planted in God’s Kingdom, by God Himself.
His power and authority to defeat all of our enemies yesterday, today and tomorrow.
A generational promise to us for descendants, after we ourselves have died!
The eternal establishment of our “house’ or family line, as His adopted people, or children.
What is your view on God’s offer, and how does it now affect your life?
In all of this, there is a pattern that emerges, which David instigates. This is refined in the New Testament.
Now let’s transpose all of or txt verses.
Over to the New Testament:
Open up to Matthew 6 V 9B-13:
9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
V 9 “Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.”
V 10: “Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven”
V 11: “Give us this day our Daily Bread”
V 12: “And forgive us our debts (sins) as we forgive our debtors. (Those who sin against us).
V 13: “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil - for thine is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory, for Ever and Ever, Amen.
V 16 Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
V 17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;
V 18 That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
Acknowledgement of who God is, and deep honour and respects for His name and worship.
V 19: We have the acceptance of God’s will, in our lives, and here on Earth, [;us a desire to see it accomplished everywhere.
After reading these comparisons of Old Testament and New Testament what is now the condition of your understanding, and your heart?
V 20 and V 21: Total reliance on God daily for our needs, and the redemption of our sins. But notice here, and in verse 14, there is a seventh principle; That is to have a forgiving nature yourself!
V 22-24: Acknowledging God’s power for divine deliverance, protection, guidance, and His outright sovereignty in our lives;
Put yourself in God’s place for a moment. Can you feel His sorrow, His heartache, then His loving joy, as He shows us how to live for Him and with Him?
Matthew 6 V 9B-13:
We call it “The Lord’s Prayer”
Can we now see how relevant God’s Word is throughout all generations? From the Old Testament to the New Testament, and thus for our yesterday’s today’s and tomorrow’s.
1 Chronicles 17:25 of our text David re-affirms His contrition of Heart, and His generational acceptance of God’s will and promises for His life, and His descendants after Him.
V 26 And now, Lord, thou art God, and hast promised this goodness unto thy servant:
King David praises Him with a thankful heart. Principle Number Eight (8).
Notice what King David says in:
V 27A: “Now therefore let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may before thee forever.” This then allows us to pray for generational blessings upon our house, or family line, to ever be before God, thus His protection is on the fruit of our loins.
Now see the final part of David’s and hopefully our realisation in:
V 27B: “For thou blessings O Lord, and it shall be blessed forever”
This statement comprises more than just the physical blessings which occur in our daily lives, as wonderful as they are, they are only transient, not lasting or enduring.
However, when the Lord blesses you spiritually, you are indeed blessed forever.
Can you feel the Father’s love, that can never fade away?
It is just as fervent tomorrow as it was yesterday, and as it is right now.
